We are excited to welcome Dr. Chris Helt as the new Director of GreenScreen. He brings a wealth of expertise and experience in developing chemical safety and sustainability standards and assessment methodologies, managing stakeholder engagement, and implementing large-scale projects such as the Beauty and Personal Care Product Sustainability Rating System.
Dr. Helt comes to Clean Production Actin by way of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, where he was the Material Health Practice Lead. He oversaw and guided all technical aspects of material health category requirements for Cradle to Cradle Certified® program Versions 3.1 and 4.0, including managing assessment methodologies, guidance documents, training modules, and resources for assessor verification.
Dr. Helt was also the Manager, Technical Development for The Sustainability Consortium (TSC), where he leveraged his toxicological expertise to establish best practices in chemical selection and safety, including developing the Beauty and Personal Care (BPC) Product Sustainability Rating System for retailers and manufacturers to assess product sustainability and chemical safety. This system focuses on hazard avoidance and exposure-based risk assessment for chemicals in BPC products.
Prior to TSC, Dr. Helt was a Senior Research Scientist at the Colgate-Palmolive Company, where he performed chemical hazard identification, quantitative exposure assessments, and human health risk assessments for new ingredients and final formulations to be used in home and personal care products.
He brings a Ph.D. and MS in toxicology from The University of Rochester.
We look forward to growing the scale and scope of GreenScreen’s impact for safer chemicals, materials, and products with Dr. Helt!
